How to Change the Vinyl Basement Windows

Vinyl basement windows – Typical basement windows are small, horizontal openings as at ground level. Replacing them is one of the simplest window-replacement projects due to its size. As with most modern switch windows, the cellar vinyl switch windows come before hanging, which means they are already installed in their casing and fully functional when you buy them, so all you need to do is put them in the opening, level them and protect them.

How to change the vinyl basement windows. Measure height and width of the window opens with the old basement window still in place. If the window is opened, open it so that you can measure within the sides of the opening where the window is located. If it does not open, measure along the front, from top to bottom and end then, on the outside of the limit of stop trim that encloses the envelope. Subtract ½ inch from the height and width measurements you get to calculate the size of the new window. Do not remove the old window until you are ready to install it again. PRY of stop trim from around the inside of the window opens with your hammer and curved bar. Keep the trim intact and set it aside. Run your jigsaw saw with cutting blades on the outer edge of the window cover, between the casing and the frame, to cut through the screws that hold the casing in place. Pull out the window.

Set the new vinyl basement windows in the opening. Enter the notification level on the new window cover. Press shims underneath and on the sides of the casing until it reads level. Shoot the installation screws through the sides of the housing, outwards in the frame, through pre-drilled screw holes. Most devices have two screw holes on each vertical side. Fill the space around the cover with spray foam insulation. Put the stop trim back around the window to conceal space, using your trim nail gun. Seal around the trim.
